If you’ve been looking to take your viewing experience to the next level, the home projector is the way to go. They can provide you with a cinema-esque picture, and if you buy the proper speakers, you’ll feel like you’re right in the theater.
But there are so many projectors to pick from that it can be a bit intimidating for a newcomer. That’s why we’re here to help you by comparing some of the best projectors out there.
First, we have the H6510BD from Acer, and then we have the HD131XE by Optoma. Both are acclaimed brands, but which product is better?
The Price
To figure out which projector is the better value, we need to look at the cost first. We’ll look at the price provided by the official retailer on the product’s Amazon page.
For Acer’s model, it’s going for about $605, as of this article. Optoma’s HD131XE is actually not available through first-party means, so you have to buy it through a third-party seller. As of this post, the least expensive model in new condition is $770.
That’s quite a noticeable price difference, and with Optoma’s model no longer available through first-party means, the HD131XE needs to be amazing to make it worth the money.
Picture
Now, let’s look at one of the most important aspects of any projector, the picture quality. Both projectors deliver 1080p HD, and support 3D. Therefore, we must compare the brightness and contrast.
Acer’s projector shines bright at up to 3.000 lumens, and its contrast ratio is 10,000:1. Not too shabby. Optoma’s projector, meanwhile, is 500 lumens less than Acer’s, but has a contrast ratio of 18,000:1, beating Acer out easily.
For us, 2,500 lumens is usually bright enough, and the extra contrast ratio is too good to pass up. Optoma wins.
Other Features
Neither product mentions anything about internal speakers, but most projectors do have one. Despite this, you’re better off buying external speakers, anyway, if you want the full sound experience.
Both projectors do have eco modes, which will save you some power when the projector is idle. This is a clever way of reducing your power, but you might as well turn the projector off if you’re not going to use it.
Other than that, there aren’t too many impressive bells and whistles that either product has, so neither wins on this front.
Which is Better?
This one’s a tough decision. On one hand, Optoma’s product blows Acer’s out of the water in contrast ratio, but on the other, Acer’s is brighter, cheaper, and has first-party support.

If you are concerned with the lack of warranty and customer service, go with Acer. They’re cheaper as well, so that’s a plus. Optoma is a good projector, but may be risky for some.
But both are good purchases. If you have the chance to try both of them out, do so, and see which one you like better.
