DeWalt has a whole line of cordless, compact drills to choose from. There are really light ones considered “compact” within the compact drills. There are also “medium” sized compact drills.
Two great options for the medium-sized compact drills are the DeWalt DCD771C2 vs. the DeWalt DCD780C2!
I took a look at four categories that consumers are typically interested in to help differentiate the selling points between these two drills. The four categories are: 1) size, weight, dimensions and material type, 2) power source, voltage, watts and battery type, 3) included in drill/driver kit, and 4) additional features.
Size, Weight, Dimensions and Material Type
The DCD771C2 is considered a medium-sized compact drill, weighing in at 6.5 lbs. The dimensions of this model are 13.9 x 9.9 x 4.2 inches. For added durability, the DCD771C2 is made with steel.
The DCD780C2 is also considered a medium-sized compact drill. The overall weight for this model stands at 7.8 lbs. It is approximately 3 inches larger than the DCD771C2. The dimensions are 16.2 x 9.9 x 4.5 inches. This model, however, is made out of plastic rather than steel.
Power Source, Voltage, Watts and Battery Type
Both the DCD771C2 and the DCD780C2 are cordless, electric compact drills. In addition, they both run off of 20 volts and have lithium ion batteries.
The DCD771C2 has a max wattage of 300 watts. The DCD780C2, however, has a higher max wattage of 350.

Overall Recommendation
While both the DCD771C2 and the DCD 780C2 are rated among reviewers between four and five stars, my recommendation would have to go to the DCD780C2.
The DCD780C2 has a higher speed range and wattage. In addition, this model has a certified energy-star rating, making it more appealing to the environmental-conscientious consumers.
The downside to this model, however, is that it is made of plastic. If you are anything like me you get nervous that you’re going to break something that’s made out of plastic. It would have been nice to see this model made out of steel, like the DCD771C2.
The only notable downsides from the consumer reviews were that the batteries can drain quickly, but this was only reported by approximately 1 percent of the reviews. The other major complaint was that the serial number, needed for registration of this drill, is so small that it is overlooked frequently.
