Baby monitors like the Motorola MBP36s and Motorola MBP854 allow parents to know how their child is sleeping and if there are any causes for concerns.
To help you decide if the Motorola MBP36s or the Motorola MBP854 is right for you, we’ve compared the two baby video monitors in the categories of camera, display screen, menu options and extras. We then offer a recommendation.
Camera
The camera for both the Motorola MBP36s and the Motorola MBP854 includes infrared LEDs that allow you to see your child, even in the darkest of rooms. There is a speaker that connects with the display screen so that you can talk to your child if you want.
The camera has a power adapter connector and an on/off switch. You don’t have to worry about charging a battery on the camera.
The camera also has a temperature sensor on both models.
Display Screen
The Motorola MBP36s has a 3.5 inch diagonal color screen while the Motorola MBP854 has a larger 4.3 inch screen. On this screen you can see your child, and if he moves, there is no problem as you can use the screen to move up, down and sideways.
The display screen also shows the room temperature, which is great as it allows you to know if your child may become too hot or too cold in the night.
The display screen for both products is battery powered, and will need to be plugged in to recharge about every 16 hours. This means that if your baby is just napping then you can take the display screen around the house with you without any worry that it will lose its battery charge.
Menu Options
Through the display screen, you can set up your baby video camera to meet all of your needs. The setup is similar for both the Motorola MBP36s and the Motorola MBP854.
Both display screens allow you to change both the volume of your baby’s room as well as the brightness of your display screen.
Extras
Both the Motorola MBP36s and the Motorola MBP854 have extra features that most standard baby monitors do not have.
One of the best features that the Motorola MBP36s offers is a lullaby option. As most new parents eventually find out, lullabies can be a great way to get a non-sleeping baby to finally sleep.
The Motorola MBP36 has five lullaby options and you can access them through the display screen. You can choose to play just one song and have it end, or to play all five songs.
Along with the lullaby feature, another extra on the Motorola MBP36s is the alarm. The alarm sounds on the display case, not the camera itself, so you won’t unnecessarily wake your baby.
You can set the alarm for two, four or six hour periods, after which your display screen will beep for 45 seconds and the alarm icon will flash red.
The Motorola MBP854 has the ability to connect to compatible smartphones, tablets and computers.
It also has the option of free in-app video recording and image snapshot. If you’re like most parents and love the image of your sleeping baby, this is a great way to record the moment without going into the nursery and potentially disrupting that sleep.

Decide which extras you think you may need before purchasing. If possible, wait until after the baby is born to see what needs he or she will have, as this may influence your purchase.
