You have some money to burn. Maybe you’ve been saving up, or got more cash back than you thought you would. Or, you’re just rich. Either way, you want to splurge on a projector, and have a few grand to spare.
And that’s a good thing. Projectors under $1,000 can be good, but won’t deliver the theater experience like a more expensive model can. So let’s look at two models that are higher end. First, we have the PT-Ae8000U by Panasonic, and the 503OUB by Epson.
Which is the better value, delivering on both quality and price? We’ll find out.
The Price
As we said before, these are higher end projectors, so if you’re on a tight budget, turn back now. There are plenty of projectors that are decent and deliver in quality.
We’ll be looking at the price offered by the first party seller.
For Panasonic’s mode, it’s selling for about $1,775 on Amazon, and Epson is going for $2,299.
That’s a generous difference between the two. If Pansaonic’s is better, you have quite a bit to spend on speakers or media. So let’s see if it is.
The Picture
As you can expect from a higher end model, both deliver in that full 1080p experience, and they do have compatibility with 3D, so you can use 3D Blu-Ray to your advantage.
How bright are they? Both are 2,400 lumens, so there’s no difference between the two.
For the contrast ratio, the Panasonic is a whopping 500,000:1, and the Epson takes it even higher at 600,000:1. Of course, you should expect that with a higher end model.
Due to its extra contrast, the Epson is the winner.
Extra Features
Having added bells and whistles is a plus, and both projectors do have something to offer.
They each have built-in speakers, but as you should know, they aren’t going to provide you with good sound. You need external speakers for a true sound experience, and we wonder why higher ends even bother. They could use the speakers for something else.
Each also has power saving options, so that’s a plus. When you’re not using the projector, the brightness will dim.
Another bonus that the Epson model has is that they include two pairs of 3D glasses, which are rechargeable. And for that, Epson wins when it comes to extra features.
Which is Better?
Overall, Epson wins, providing you with a better picture and 3D capabilities. However, there is a significant price difference, which may turn off some people.
Depending on your budget, you may think that the extra 100k in contrast ratio isn’t worth it, but if you’re looking for the best, you can’t go wrong with Epson.
Of course, if your budget is a bit lower, you could use the money to buy speakers and media to use your projector with, but it’s up to you.
