The Plantronics 780 and the Plantronics 780 are both surround sound headsets designed to give you a high quality gaming experience. With two headsets from the same brand how do you know which one is better?
We have compiled a list of the main features of both the Plantronics 780 and the Plantronics 788 to give you a better idea of which one is the best.
Comfort
The Plantronics 780 and the 788 both offer cushioned ear pads that are covered in a soft fabric as well as soft, cushioned headbands to give you a comfortable fit during extended periods of gaming. Each of the headsets can be adjusted to fit the size of your head and the speakers can be rotated when not in use or if you need to hear something on the outside.
Both the headsets are lightweight, meaning you can wear them in comfort for longer. The 780 weighs 14.4 ounces and the 788 weighs a little more at 15.7 ounces.
Functions
The 780 and the 788 both feature noise cancellation functions on their microphones, meaning your teammates and opponents will hear your voice clearly, despite any background noise. Both the models have their volume controls on the headset which is designed to make it quicker and easier to access them, yet could prove more difficult to use than in line controls on other models.
The features on both the 780 and the 788 are similar as they both have an adjustable microphone so you can easily stow it away for when you’re watching movies or listening to music.
Audio
The two headsets both have 7.1 surround sound delivered through 40 millimeter over the ear speakers so you can become fully immersed in all of your games. The audio quality on both the 780 and 788 is superior with Dolby and Pro Logic technology built into the headsets so you get a clearer quality sound.
The speakers on the 780 and the 788 are versatile enough to deliver quality sound on music and movies and have a strong bass to give extra depth. The swivel features on the speakers on both models will allow you to use either headset as a set of miniature speakers with the volume turned up.
Compatibility
Both the Plantronics 780 and the 788 headsets are designed to be used with a PC and come with a USB connection cable. While both speakers will work on PS3 and PS4, the length of the cable could be an issue if you’re not sitting super close to your console.
The 7.1 surround sound speakers are designed to be used with Windows software and therefore the surround sound feature will not work on other devices. When used on other devices, however, the speakers will revert to a stereo quality sound.
Recommendation
The Plantronics 780 and the Plantronics 788 are both very similar headsets but after looking at the features we think the better headset is the Plantronics 788. Despite it being the heavier of the two headsets, it is a cooler looking model than the 780.
Both headsets deliver on sound quality and performance but the 788 just has the edge over the 780, looking like a much more expensive headset.
