Both units are great heart rate sensors although there seem to be alot of products in the market these days (like the fitbit etc…) that are also in this category and seem to have higher reviews so that is certainly worth checking out as well!
Specs | Polar H6 | Polar H7 |
Weight | 100lbs | 100lbs |
Compatibility
Both are compatible with iPhone 4s+ although the H7 claims to be compatible with a much higher number of devices than the H6 which is to be expected consideiring it is the newer model.
The H7 appears to be more focused on iPhone products where as the H6 mentions android devices, specifically those from Samsung (Galaxy etc…). If you are looking to use with an android device this would be worth further research.
Battery
The H7 boasts a user replaceable batter while this is not mentioned on the specs for the H6. This could be very important, especially to power users. The ability to replace the battery by yourself could literally save you more than half the cost of the device down the road.
Phone Battery Usage
We believe that the H6 might be the winner here, with many users saying that it does not contribute to a huge drain on battery life. In contrast, many users of the H7 have noted that the bluetooth connectivity does contribute to phone battery drainage and that you should be sure to disable the bluetooth connectivity after your workout to avoid this.
Ease Of Use
Users of both the Polar H6 and the Polar H7 have complained that the device does take a bit of trial and error to get setup in using. Some users were very frustrated by this while others (who may have a more techy background) found it to be a minor annoyance. If you don’t like spending time on things like this, or are not technically inclined, it may be worth while to do your research on some other devices that seem to have more positive reviews in the ‘ease of use’ department.
Conclusion
In our opinion, the Polar H7 is the better unit simply because it is newer, has the same features of the H6 and seems to have better reviews overall. But that being said if you are on a budget, or are running an older smart phone the H6 will save you some money and still get the job done just fine.
