The Shure SRH440 and the Audio Technica ATHM50x are designed to be used for analyzing audio files either at home or in the studio and are compatible with almost every audio device. They both feature 3.5 millimeter headphone jacks and cables and the Audio Technica ATHM50x comes with 3 separate cables so you can choose the cable that best suits your environment, such as a shorter one for laptop use.
Neither of the models require additional drivers or software and can be plugged into speakers, computers, and other portable audio devices such as smartphones.
Recommendation
After looking at the Shure SRH440 and the Audio Technica ATHM50x we think they are good quality headphones within their price range but we think the best set is the Audio Technica ATHM50x.
The Audio Technica ATHM50x has the benefit of the swivelled ear cups and the interchangeable cables which we think makes them worth the extra $30 to $40. The Shure SRH440 is still a good model of headphones and will still deliver high quality audio.
