We think the obvious winner here is the 1900, and that most people would agree with us, but there are definitely some people who don’t! Check out our in-depth comparison and decide for yourself!
Whether for traveling, commuting, or simply for good storage, a durable backpack of good quality is an asset for the modern person. There are literally hundreds of brands to choose from, but if you want good material and excellent design, then SwissGear is the brand you should pick. This brand is more known for its Swiss army knives, but besides those they also make great backpacks.
The SA1923 ScanSmart backpack and the Travel Gear ScanSmart backpack 1900 are among SwissGear’s most popular items, and for good reason. Both backpacks have very similar features, but also some subtle variances.
The Similarities
To start off, both laptops have multiple compartments and can fit one laptop of up to 17 inches in size. Both are also completely made of heavy-duty, water-resistant polyester, and have a TSA-compliant flattening-down mechanism that allows travelers to get through airport security without removing their laptop from the backpack. The main compartment of the bag that is separate from the laptop compartment is extremely spacious on both the SA1923 and the 1900.
Not only that, both backpacks employ an airflow backing system which helps keep the backpack user’s back cooler even when carrying a full pack. The backpacks also have padded shoulder straps that further increase the comfort factor. For those who will have their backpack on a lot of the time, comfort is a serious aspect to consider, and SwissGear has covered this aspect well with the mentioned two features.
Practicality-wise, both backpacks have two water bottle pockets for the user to carry beverages on the go, as well as two compartments at the sides that can hold sunglasses, regular glasses, or other small items. The various other compartments also help users keep a plethora of gadgets, books, clothing, or other items without much difficulty. For users who prefer to keep their sunglasses easily accessible, there is a sunglasses holder on one of the straps on both the SA1923 and the 1900.
The Differences
Basically, both backpacks are extremely similar except for two aspects. The first is color. The 1900 comes in several different colors combinations while the SA1923 comes in black. Secondly, the 1900 comes with a proper tablet compartment opposite the ScanSmart laptop area, which the SA1923’s compartment in the same area is more suited for lighter items like folders or documents.
The Verdict
Design-wise, both the SwissGear SA1923 and the 1900 ScanSmart backpack are quite similar. You cannot go wrong by choosing either one. If you are fussy when it comes to colors and would prefer more choice though, opt for the 1900 as then you will have some selections to pick from. Also, opt for the 1900 if you are picky about where you put your tablet, as the 1900 has a compartment better suited for this purpose.

That being said, SA1923 is equally as good in all other aspects, and can still securely hold a tablet as well as other gadgets. So really, it is a matter of how much you look into the nitty-gritty details. For the regular backpack user though, both backpacks are equally worthy of purchase.
