There comes a time when the TV just isn’t cutting it. You want the experience of a theater in the comfort of your home.
Whether you’re wanting to watch a blockbuster movie, catch up on your favorite show, or just want to play some video games, your speaker needs to have quality. But with so many speakers to choose from, how are you supposed to know which one to purchase?
We’re here to help you make an informed decision. First, we have the ViewSonic PJD5134, and we’re pitting it against the Epson VS230. Both are high-rated, so you know you’re going to get a good experience. But which one is better? We’re about to find out.
The Price
First, we should compare prices. As you may know, we look at the product’s Amazon page, and use the price offered by the official retailer for a new model.
ViewSonic’s projector, as of this article, goes for about $330, and the Epson will cost you about $305. As you can tell, both are projectors for those on a budget, and the price difference isn’t too much.
With that said, does ViewSonic’s model have anything that makes it worth the extra $25?
The Picture
With these two projectors being cheaper, you’ll be surprised at their capabilities in picture quality. The ViewSonic has 3,000 lumens, a 15,000:1 contrast ratio, full HD capabilities, and support for 3D Blu Ray.
Epson, while it does support HDMI, does not mention anything about 3D support, nor does it bring up its contrast ratio. The projector also has 200 fewer lumens, making the ViewSonic the clear winner in picture.
Other Features
Both projectors do have built-in speakers, but you might as well buy external speakers if you want quality. Even in the higher-end models, the speakers are not powerful, and are meant only for a last resort.
Also, both projectors do support long lamp life at 10,000 hours, so if you’re looking for something that was built to last, this has you covered.
Finally, Epson’s model does boast USB capabilities, allowing you to display without any other device. This is great for office or classroom presentations. The ViewSonic does not appear to have a USB slot.
Overall, when it comes to extra features, we do give Epson credit for its USB slot.
Which is Better?
Both projectors are for those on a budget, so the price difference isn’t too big. At only $25 extra, ViewSonic has a better picture and is compatible with 3D, making it he clear contender over Epson’s model.

Epson is a good projector for the cost as well, and it does have its place. If you’re looking for a simple projector for your office or classroom, Epson is ideal, especially with its USB slot, which will work for thumb drives.
But for everything else, choose ViewSonic. It’s the better value for only a few bucks more.
Here’s hoping this article gave you an informed opinion in choosing your next projector. Good luck!
