Brother sewing machines are some of the most well-known sewing machines around. With their dependability and quality who would look anywhere else? However, there are quite a few Brother models to pick from.
We suggest starting with the Brother XR9500PRW and the Brother CS6000i.
We took a look at these machines, basing our review on the following four categories: built-in stitches, overall dimensions, included accessories, and additional defining features.
Built-In Stitches
The Brother XR95000PRW boasts 100 built-in stitches. These built in stitches include a variety of utility, heirloom, decorative and buttonholes.
The Brother CS6000i has a lower number of built-in stitches. It features 60 built-in stitches, including decorative and buttonholes.
Overall Dimensions
Depending on the amount of space you have for a sewing station, size of machine can play a big factor.
The Brother XR9500PRW is a decently sized machine at 11.45” H x 6.69” W x 16.02” D. Its weight is manageable at 9.92 lbs.
The Brother CS6000i’s size is just about identical with dimensions at 11.4” H x 6.7” W x 16.1” D. The weight is doubled, however, due to the oversized and detachable table. The overall weight for the Brother CS6000i is 18 lbs.
Included Accessories
Although included accessories aren’t usually the defining reason someone purchases a machine, it is a good thing to look at.
The Brother XR9500PRW has a wonderful amount of included accessories. They are: twin needle, ballpoint needle, bobbins, seam ripper, extra spool, accessory pouch with needle set, screwdriver, cleaning brush, and seven different accessory feet.
The Brother CS6000i also has quite the lineup of included accessories. They are: accessory pouch with needle set, spool caps, twin needle, bobbins, spool pin, seam ripper, cleaning brush, eyelet punch, oversized table and hard carrying case.
In addition, the Brother CS6000i has a whopping nine accessory feet included.
Additional Defining Features
With all that said, here are some features worth mentioning about both machines.
The Brother XR9500PRW defining features include:
- Jam resistant drop-in bobbin
- Easy needle threading system
- Bright LED
- Free arm
- 850 Stitches per minute
- 7mm wide x 5mm length stitches
- Easy bobbin winding system
- Backlit LCD screen
The Brother CS6000i defining features are:
- Easy bobbin winding system
- Oversized wide table
- Free arm
- Automatic needle threader
- LCD display
- Dual LED
- Quick-set bobbin
- 850 stitched per minue
- 7mm wide x 5mm length stitches
Overall Product Recommendation
After looking at all of the information included above, the overall product recommendation is for the Brother CS6000i.
While it is the heavier of the two machines, and has less built-in stitches, the oversized wide table and the nine included additional feet are great qualities that are worth the weight. The oversized table means that you can work on larger pieces. The dual LED lights mean that you can clearly see those larger projects (as well as any projects you’re working on!)
However, the Brother XR9500PRW is quite the honorable mention. With 100 built-in stitches and a jam resistant drop-in bobbin system, it’s a great runner up and worth considering if you aren’t going to be working on larger projects.
