Take a look at these two laser distance measurement tools to help you get your bearings: the Leica Disto D2 and the Bosch GLM 50.
We took a look at the distance measurement capabilities, number of line displays, dimensions and measurement modes to help you decide which tool will best fit your needs.
Distance Measurement Capabilities
The Leica Disto D2 has a great range for measuring distances indoors. It has a range of 0.05 m up to 60m. The accuracy of its readings is about 1.5mm.
The Bosch GLM 50 has a slightly smaller range, starting at 0.05 m up to 50m. The accuracy, however, is the same as the Leica at 1.5mm.
Number of line displays
Both the Leica Disto D2 and the Bosch GLM 50 feature a three-line display for reference points. The Leica line displays are clearly visible in both the light and the dark. The Bosch’s line displays have references for front, back or center (with use of optional tripod).
Dimensions
The Leica Disto D2 is on the small size, with dimensions of 4.4 x 1.7 x .9 inches. Its size, in addition to the soft grip and ergonomic design, makes it great to carry in a pocket.

Recommendation
Although these two laser measurement tools are very similar, the Leica Disto D2 walks away as the preferred device. Not only is it as small as a deck of card, it has an ergonomic, soft grip to keep you from dropping it. In addition, it had more measurement modes, measures a further distance and has a display that allows you to see measurements both in the day and night.
