When you’re a child or a teen, the hardest decision you had to make was picking between video game consoles, or choosing what kind of candy to get. Now that you’re older, your biggest decisions involve your own child.
Such as picking the right car seat for your infant or toddler. It sounds easy at first, but picking a good car seat is something you need to think long and hard about. You can’t just go into this with guns a blazing. You need to make an informed decision, and we’re here to help you make that.
We’re comparing some of the best rated car seats on the market today. And for this article, we’re looking at the Recaro ProRIDE and the Britax Advocate. Which is the better value, providing you more peace of mind and convenience for your money? Let’s find out.
The Price
Before we do anything, we need to look at how much these seats cost by looking to see how much a new unit goes for on its Amazon page.
The ProRIDE, as of this article, goes for about $267 for a new model. This is a seat with quality in mind, so the price is for those who have a higher budget. So let’s look at the Advocate now.
As of this post, the Advocate is selling for about $304. While not a wild price difference, the Advocate is still a good penny more expensive than the ProRIDE. Is there a reason for the price difference, or is the ProRIDE cheaper as well as a better value?
Features
The ProRIDE does have quite a few features in its tiny seat. For protection, it has full side impact protection, which is made to protect a child’s neck, face, head, pelvis, and torso. If you’re afraid of being in a car crash, this is the perfect peace of mind.
The ProRIDE also has an adjustable harness that has no-rethread, as well as both a rear and forward facing position. The rear is for infants who weight five to 40 pounds, while the forward is best for those who are under 49 inches and weight 20-65.
Overall, the ProRIDE is quite safe, so let’s see how the Advocate tops it.
The Advocate has safe cells, which claim to meet federal safety standards. Shock absorbers and side protection are available, as well as a deep foam shell, allowing for more absorption. The seat also claims to keep your kid’s head secure and is great for deflecting debris.
Like the ProRIDE, it is adjustable, allowing for a ten position harness and two position buckle, so as your kid grows, they can be safe.
Which is Better?
Overall, we have to go with the Advocate. It seems to have some more safety features than the ProRIDE, and isn’t that what you want in a car seat? Not only that, but it’s a bit more affordable. Both car seats are excellent, however, so if you can’t find the Advocate, check out the ProRIDE.
