The Samson SR850 is open backed, giving you a more realistic sound combined with exterior sound, meaning the sound is more acoustic and open. The Superlux HD681 is a semi-open backed set, meaning some of the exterior sounds are let into your audio to give you a more open sound than with closed backed headphones.
Features
Both the Samson SR850 and the Superlux HD681 are built to be durable and both feature exposed wire bridges on the headbands. The Samson SR850 is the more stylish of the two models and looks more sturdy for everyday use.
Both models are ideal for studio monitoring and both have an impedance of 32 ohms. Neither of the two models have detachable cables and neither feature folding or swiveling ear cups, meaning they are not as compact for storing or traveling.
Compatibility
The Samson SR850 and the Superlux HD681 are designed to be used in the studio so they are compatible with a range of high end audio equipment. Both models feature a 6.3 millimeter adapter that screws on over the 3.5 millimeter jack, meaning you can use both sets of headphones with portable audio devices, such as phones.
Neither the Samson SR850 or the Superlux HD681 require any additional software to be used and will work as soon as they are plugged in. Both sets of headphones are ideal for listening to a range of music files as well as for giving a more realistic audio when watching movies or gaming.
Recommendation
After analyzing the features of both the Samson SR850 and the Superlux HD681 we think the better set of headphones is the Samson SR850. The Samson SR850 is a more comfortable set of headphones for wearing for long durations because of the breathable velour ear cushions.
The Samson SR850 is a more stylish looking set overall and gives a realistic audio experience.
