Appraisers
The most talked about distance laser tool for appraisers and relators was the Leica Disto D810 Touch. With the ability to transfer data using Bluetooth technology this is the top choice for 2015.
The Bluetooth capability allows the measurements taken to be transferred directly to a computer, eliminating human error when typing in multiple measurements. In addition, the D810 features a tilt sensor and advanced measuring function to solve measuring problems on the spot!
Photography
Photography distance laser measure tool for 2015 actually came in as a tie. The two most discussed laser distance measure tools on reviews and forums were the Leica Disto A5 and the Hiliti PD42.
The Leica Disto A5 has a range up to 650 ft, a timer function and the ability to store the last 20 measurements. In addition, it IP54, which means it is water and dust resistant. This particular model was created in 2005. Since then D5 have been redone with new, more efficient features. The brand new model on sale today is the Leica Distro D510.
The Hiliti PD42, although discussed thoroughly, is no longer a product offered directly from Hiliti. They can, however, be purchased through second-hand through other venues. The newer models, available currently from Hiliti, are just as popular. A comparable upgrade to the Hiliti PD42 would be the Hiliti PD-I laser range meter.
It features a 360 degree tilt sensor, uses LEDs, and has no minimum distance required for measuring short distances. It is light weight and can store the last 30 measurements with calculations and graphics. To help extend the life of this product, it also comes with a hand strap and a soft pouch.
Golf
Laser distance measure tools can be used by the amateur golfer, professional golfer, or a tournament official. Upon reading reviews from all three types of golf enthusiasts, the laser distance measurer that came on top was the Bushnell Pinseeker 1500 Tournament Edition. While this is an outdated model, a preference for the Tour V3 satisfies previous owners of the Pinseeker 1500.
The Bushnell Tour V3 has all the same technology as the Pinseeker 1500, coupled with the new technology of the Jolt features. The accuracy is within 1 yard, and features five (5) times the magnification. It is rainproof and includes an ergonomic design with assists in providing a stable grip. In addition, to keep the TourV3 safe, it includes a premium carry case with purchase.
If you currently own a Bushnell Pinseeker, or other type of previous model golf laser measurement tool (other brands included), don’t worry. Bushnell has a trade in program that will reimburse you for the older models and let you purchase the Tour V3, or other new models. It’s worth checking into if you are looking to upgrade to more advance technology and accuracy.
Contractors
The term contractor can refer to many different trades, such as: general contractor, electrical contractor, landscaping contractor, etc. With the term “contractor” being broad, the choice of top laser distance measure tool was also broad. To help narrow down the top choice for 2015 there is, instead, a brand that was most talked about.
Bosch laser distance measure tools seem to take the cake (or project) in the rankings. There are various models that people liked, with some noteworthy ones being the GLM 100C Laser Measure, the GLM 80 Laser Distance and Angle Measurer, and the GLR225 Laser Distance Measurer.
Hunting
Laser distance measure tools can be beneficial for both bow hunting and gun hunting. The Vectrnoix brand seemed to be hot on the forum and review discussions, specifically the LRF II, Terrapin, and the PLRF 10C. The top discussed within the three listed was the Terrapin. Unfortunately the Terrapin was recently, as of March 1, 2014, discontinued. The good news is that it was discontinued to make way for the new version, the PLRF 25C.
The PLRF25C is a favorite among marksmen, hunters, snipers and spotters. It is lightweight and is water resistant up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes. It is operable by one-button, which gives the hunter the ability to control it with a single hand and continue to steady their weapon. As an added feature, the PLRF25C is Bluetooth compatible.

Landscaping
In the landscaping category, as well as many other categories on this list, the Leica Distro D5 proves to be the most talked about laser distance measurement tool. The D5 is discontinued but the new version of it, the D510, is more useful than ever.
The Leica Distro D510 has high ratings for use, especially when using out in bright daylight. It is also considered durable, boasting an IP 65 level of protection. This means that the D510 is water jet protected and dust-tight. The benefits of this particular model, when it comes to landscaping, is that it is Bluetooth compatible and can link up with Leica’s free App – Leica DISTO sketch. This would be extremely beneficial to any landscaping contractor trying to transfer measurements to their project drawings. In addition to the Bluetooth capability, the model itself will hold 30 measurements in the internal memory.
