Among the many laser distance measurement tools available, Bosch has made some of the best. With so many to choose from, we’ve narrowed down to two for this comparison: the Bosch DLR130 K and the Bosch GLM 40.
Some of the features that are worth looking into when purchasing a laser distance measurement tool are: measurement distances, measurement modes and systems, dimensions of the tool and fun features
Measurement Distance
The Bosch DLR130K has a maximum measurement distance of up to 130 ft. The accuracy for the distances measured is at 1 /16 in. accuracy.
The Bosch GLM 40 has a maximum measurement distance of up to 135 ft. The accuracy for the distances measured is the same as the DLR130K at 1 /16 in. accuracy.
Measurement Modes and Measurement Systems
The Bosch DLR130K has four (4) measurement modes as well as four (4) measurement systems, in comparison to the Bosch GLM 40, which has six (6) measurement modes and only one (1) measurement system.
The Bosch DLR130K’s measurement modes include: length, area, volume, and continuous.
The Bosch DLR130K’s measurement systems are: inches, feet and inches, decimal feet and metric.
The Bosch GLM 40’s measurement modes are: area, distance, length, volume, continuous measurement and addition / subtraction.
Dimensions
While both of these Bosch laser distance measurement tools are compact, the Bosch DLR130K is the smaller of the two.
The Dimensions for the DLR130K are conveniently compact. They are listed as 4” x 2-5/16” x 1-1/4”. Just small enough to fit into any pocket as needed.
The Bosch GLM 40 is slightly larger with dimensions being listed as 7.2” x 7.8” x 2”. The GLM 40 is slightly larger but still small enough to be easily carried in a tool bag.
Fun Features
Just as there are technical features for every tool there are also fun features!
The fun features for the Bosch DLR130K are:
- Battery life for approximately 30,000 measurements
- Ergonomic

The fun features for the Bosch GLM 40 are:

Overall Recommendation
While the picking between these two Bosch laser distance measurement tools was tough, I’m going to have to go with the Bosch DLR130K.
The Bosch GLM 40 is a great tool but the Bosch DLR130K has the convenient size and some great features that would come in handy.
The main features that stand out about the Bosch DLR130K, aside from its super compact size, are the versatility in the measurement systems you can use (for instance inches and feet vs. metric) and the ergonomic soft grip exterior to help with those hard-to-reach areas.

Some runner up points about the Bosch GLM 40, however, are that it does measure five (5) feet more than the Bosch DLR130K and it has two extra measurement modes (distance and addition / subtraction) that the DLR130K doesn’t have.
