A good audio interface is important for any musician, aspiring or not. No one wants to listen to a track where the band sounds like they were being recorded with a cell phone from 2004. Instead, they want clean-sounding audio with a lot of personality.
And that’s why interfaces are so good. They plug into your instrument, and convert the music into digital sound waves that you can alter to your heart’s content. Used to, an interface was for the rich, but now there are plenty of affordable interfaces that still deliver on the quality.
Today, we’ll be comparing two popular interfaces, the Komplete Audio 6 and the Scarlett 2i2. Which is better? Let’s find out.
The Price
First, we’ll need to see how much each interface costs to help us determine which is the better value. As of this article, Komplete’s interface is going for about $229 on its Amazon page for a brand new unit.
Now let’s look at Scarlett’s. There are a few versions to choose from, all with different inputs, outputs, and extra gear, including headphones. For simplicity’s sake, we’ll be comparing the default interface, which is what you first see when you go on its Amazon page.
Right now, that version is going for $149. A noticeable price difference than Komplete’s. Is there a reason? Let’s compare, shall we?
The Features
The default version of the 2i2 contains two inputs, two outputs, and also two mic presses. Not too bad considering the price. Its casing is also quite rugged, giving you the ability to take it around the country without worrying about damage.
And it’s USB-powered. No having to worry about finding a power jack for this sucker. Just plug it into your laptop and get ready to record. Buying it also guarantees free editing software, complete with a whopping gigabyte of samples to choose from.
That’s all great, but now we’ll look at what Komplete has to offer. This has two inputs and outputs as well, along with stereo inputs to deliver the quality music. You also have a port for your MIDI keyboard, which should appeal to a certain niche.
With most modern interfaces out there, it’s powered via USB, contains its own editing software, and has a headphone jack.
Overall, the Komplete does have a variety to choose from as well, but nothing that makes it stick out from the 2i2.
Which is Better?
After looking at all the features and the price, we have to go with the 2i2. It does seem to have a few more things we like than the Komplete, including more durability and free samples in the editing software.

Also, judging by the reviews, the 2i2 is a bit more trustworthy. Komplete has 4 out of 5 stars. Which is good, but a sign that some reviewers had problems. The 2i2 is a bit more trusted at 4.5 out of 5.
Here’s hoping this comparison helped you to make a more informed decision.
