Everything You Need to Know about the Wahl 5 Star Senior Clipper and the Wahl 5 Star Magic Professional Hair Clipper
It always sounds like a dream to get that perfect haircut at home, right? But in order for this dream to become a reality, you’ll need top quality hair clippers that can get the job done without any hassle.
That’s why we’re going to compare and contrast two of the best selling men’s hair clippers on the market: the Wahl 5 Star Senior Clipper and the Wahl 5 Star Magic Professional Hair Clipper.
Both of these clippers from Wahl are excellent products, but is one ultimately superior to the other? Let’s find out!
Blades
Probably the most important aspect of any clipper are the blades themselves. Both the Senior Clipper and the Magic Clipper feature adjustable blades that lock firmly in place and permit a precise and clean cut.
However, some users have complained that it’s somewhat easier to get hair stuck in the blades of the Senior Clipper than it is in the Magic Clipper, so we’ll give the edge to the latter on this one.
Power
Previously, the Senior Clipper would have won this one hands down. It features a v9000 motor that is 50% more powerful than the v5000 motor that once came standard on the older Magic Clipper, and is able to handle even the thickest of hair with ease.
However, Wahl has installed a v9000 motor on the improved model of the Magic Clipper rather than the v5000 motor, giving it the same level of power that the Senior Clipper has always had. As long as you purchase the improved Magic Clipper model, we’re going to call this one a draw.
Ergonomics
We’re going to call the Senior Clipper the winner on this one, Not only is it fully encased in metal, but it features an ergonomic design with a crevice where your thumb sits for superior comfort and that the Magic Clipper lacks.
Granted, the all metal construction of the Senior Clipper means it can become very hot after a half hour or so of continual use, but this can’t be counted as a negative when you remember that an all-metal construction means it’s probably going to last you a very long time.
Cost
The Magic Clipper has the definitive advantage here, folks. It consistently sells in the low to mid $40 range, while the Senior Clipper can be had for the high $60s at best.
If you’re looking to save money (which you understandably might be by cutting your family’s hair at home), the Magic Clipper is easily going to be your more economical option.
Conclusion
Both the Senior Clipper and the Magic Clipper will serve you well, but if we had to choose one over the other, we’d settle on the Magic Clipper.

Yes, the Senior Clipper has superior ergonomics, but you’re ultimately getting more for your money in the Magic Clipper with its smaller price point, power and blade enhancements in its improved model, and overall better reviews from consumers.
