Every musician knows that if they want to be taken seriously, they need recording software that’s at least halfway decent. You can’t just have someone with a cell phone film the band jamming. An audio interface will help you convert your music into digital sound, allowing you to edit it to your will.
Nowadays, a quality interface is quite affordable. And while it won’t give you the same amount of professionalism as a studio could, it’s still the perfect stepping stone for any musician.
But with so many interfaces to choose from, it’s hard to pick one. That’s why we’re here to make the comparison and tell you which interface works the best.
We have no time to lose, so let’s get down to it by comparing the Komplete Audio 6 with the Apogee Duet.
The Price
As of this article, the Komplete Audio 6 is going for about $229 on its Amazon page, which is quite good for a quality interface. To determine which is the better value, we must look at the price of the Apogee Duet.
In these comparisons, we always base it on the price for a new unit from the manufacturer itself. But for the Apogee, it’s not available from the manufacturer currently, and you can’t even get a new copy.
Currently, the Apogee is going for $525 used. While some used technology can still last you a long time, this is not a good sign. You want something that you can return or repair if there are problems, something that most used sellers can provide. But hey, maybe the Apogee is so good, we can overlook this.
The Features
Komplete’s interface does give you the basics when it comes to an interface. You have four analog inputs, stereo inputs, and a place to put your headphones in.
The box is small enough to be portable, but sturdy enough to survive touring, making it quite convenient. Like most budget interfaces, it also includes free editing software and is powered by USB only.
Now, let’s look at the Apogee. This interface is centered for Mac users, so if your computer isn’t a Mac, don’t buy it. It’s simplistic in design, and is quite small, about the size of an old-school iPod. Like the Komplete, it’s powered by USB, has two inputs, and four outputs.
It also has a few bells and whistles. Besides a knob for turning down the volume, it has a colorful screen that shows you the recording action in real-time, and also has touch-pad control. It’s got its Mac userbase down to a T.

The Apogee is more portable, has plenty of unique features, and has a unique screen. But it’s also $300 more and you can only buy this particular model used. With that, along with the fact that Komplete can be used on more OSs, we have to go with Komplete.
Of course, both units are good, and if you can find the Apogee for cheap, try it out as well.
