Introduction
When looking to create your home entertainment theatre, two of the best projectors on the market are the Optoma HD25-LV and the BenQ W1080ST.
When creating your perfect home theatre, the projector should be the heart of the room. It is through the projector that your entertainment experience comes to life.
In selecting a projector to complete your home theatre experience, there are many price points to meet your budget. At the high-end, retailing at $2500, is the Optoma HD25-LV and further down the scale is the BenQ W1080ST, at $1300.
Brightness and Screen Image
Projectors like the Optoma HD25-LV and the BenQ W1080ST use advanced technology, and as a result, measure their brightness in Lumens, not traditional Wattage. The Optoma HD25-LV has a brightness measure of 3500 Lumens, comparable to about 230 Watts, while the BenQ W1080ST has a Lumens output of 2000, which is equivalent to about 130 Watts.
The image contrast ratio for the Optoma HD25-LV is 20,000:1 while the BenQ W1080ST is considerably lower at only 10,000:1. The higher the contrast ratio, the more vivid the dark and light colours on a screen will appear.
While the two projectors differ in their image ratio, the screen resolution for both the Optoma HD25-LV and the BenQ W1080ST are the same standard 1080P. No matter what you are viewing, each projector will be able to show the entirety of the movie screen.
Cable Inputs
Two standard HDMI ports and two VGA ports are available for both the Optoma HD25-LV and the BenQ W1080ST. The also come with two audio-in, an audio-out port and a USB-B connectivity port.
The diverse options of inputs allows consumers to hook up a variety of devices to both projectors, including TVs, computers and gaming systems.
Warranty
The Optoma HD25-LV projector has a 1 year limited parts and labour warranty as well as a 90 day warranty on its lamp.
The BenQ W1080ST projector offers a similar 1 year warranty on parts and labour but has a significantly better warranty on its lamp as it covers 180 days.
Fan Noise
As with any powerful piece of technology, both projectors use a fan to help cool themselves so that they don’t overheat. Unfortunately, with fans come noise.
Consumers who used both the Optoma HD25-LV and the BenQ W1080ST were aware of the fan at a minimal level. Some users, however, felt that the BenQ W1080ST had some noise issues if it was placed too close to the head of those watching the screen.
Recommendation
Despite the different price points, the Optoma HD25-LV and the BenQ W1080ST projectors remain quite similar in their functions. While the Optoma HD25-LV has a slightly better screen resolution, Lumens output, and a few extra functions, the BenQ W1080ST’s price point makes it the better deal.
