Introduction
Optoma has become a leader in home entertainment projectors and with this leadership has come a surfeit of models to choose from. In order to help you narrow down that choice, we looked at two of their bestselling models: the Optoma HD25-LV and the Optoma HD33.
In order to help you reach a purchasing decision, we compared the Optoma HD25-LV and the Optoma 33 in these categories: brightness and screen image, screen size, compatibility, and overall use. We then offer our recommendations.
Brightness and Screen Image
A good projector needs to be bright, powerful and able to accurately project the picture you desire. To help determine how well a projector will succeed in these areas, you can look to the Lumens power and the contrast ratio.
The Optoma HD25-LV has 3500 Lumens power, or equivalent to 230 Watts while the Optoma HD33 is slightly less bright with 1800 Lumens, or 120 Watts. As for the contrast ratio, which determines how dark your black color will be and how light your white color will be, the Optoma HDD25-Lv has a contrast ratio of 20,000:1 while the Optoma HD33 is significantly lower at 4,000:1.
Screen Size
Different media rooms come in different sizes so it’s important to know if the projector you purchase will be able to accommodate the picture size you desire. Both the Optoma HD25-LV and the Optoma HD33 are able to project onto a maximum of a 300 inch screen size.
Both the Optoma HD25-LV and the Optoma Hd33 offer a screen ration of 1080P, which allows your video to be projected on the entirety of your screen.
Compatibility
Projectors can be used for a variety of different purposes. Be sure that the projector you invest in is compatible with the device that you want to ultimately use.
The Optoma HD25-LV offers full 3D compatibility that can integrate with either a DLP link or with 3D glasses. It also is compatible with 3D content from a Blu-ray player, an Xbox, a PS3 or other gaming consoles.
As for the Optoma HD33, it is compatible with 3D content from a Blu-ray, an Xbox, PS3 and other gaming consoles. It also has an RF Emitter for 3D capabilities.
Overall Use
The Optoma HD25-LV has minimal issues with consumers. It held up to expectations and was exactly what people were looking for.
The Optoma HD33 on the other hand, had some minor problems, though nothing that discouraged most consumers from recommending it. These issues included the light bulb burning out early, having to reset the projector and some minor focusing issues.
Recommendation
The Optoma HD25-LV is a superior product and its price indicates it. Retailing at $2500, it is significantly more than the Optima HD33, which retails at $1400.
A home theatre projector should be seen as an investment. It is a piece of technology that can last quite a few years.
If you have the means, then investing in the Optoma HD25-LV can make more sense than the Optoma D33.
