Introduction
Projectors bring your videos to life in your home theatre so be sure to know the difference between makes and models when investing in this part of your home.
The high-end Optoma HD25-LV has a price point of $2500 and offers all of the standard attributes consumers have come to expect from the brand. Lower in price, at $1400, is the Epson 3020 which does its best to compete against a higher-specification model.
To help you with your decision between the Optoma HD25-LV and the Epson 3020, we compared their screen image, screen size, 3D compatibility, and warranty to help in your final decision.
Brightness and Screen Image
When considering a new projector for your home theatre, of utmost importance is how it will project a movie onto your screen, and the best way to understand a projector’s performance is by looking at its Lumens power and its contrast ration.
The Optoma HD25-LV has 3500 Lumens, or about 230 Watts, while the Epson 3020 has 2300 Lumens, or about 150 Watts of power.
While the Optoma HD25-LV’s power output is better, the Epson 3020 projector has a higher contrast ratio. It is 40,000:1 whereas the Optoma HD25-LV projector has a ratio of 20,000:1.
Screen Size
Different projectors have the ability to project onto different screen sizes. Both the Optima and the Epson 3020 can project onto a maximum of a 300 inch screen.
For a minimum screen size, however, the two projectors differ. The Optoma HD25-LV can project onto a minimum of a 37 inch screen, while the Epson 3020 can project onto a minimum of a 30 inch screen size.
Both offer a screen ration of 1080P which means that your videos will fill the full size of your screen.
3D Compatibility
With the advent of 3D technology, having a projector that can adapt to this technology is a major plus. Both the Optoma HD25-LV and the Epson 3020 offers 3D compatibility.
The Epson 3020 projector, however, goes one step further by including two pairs of RF 3D glasses. If you’re in the market for bonus offers, it’s always nice to get something extra with your purchase.
Warranty
Buying a home theatre projector is an investment, so it’s important to be aware of the manufacturer’s warranty before purchasing anything. The Optoma HD25-LV projector has a 1 year limited warranty on parts and labour, while the Epson 3020 boasts a 2 year warranty on parts and labour.
If you are especially concerned about wear and tear on your projector, the fact that Epson 3020 offers a warranty for two whole years is a major attribute to consider.
Recommendation
There is no doubt that the Optoma HD25-LV leads the pack of the projector industry, but with its higher contrast ratio and free 3D glasses, the Epson 3020 is also a contender. In the end, choosing between the two projectors may be a struggle, but ultimately, the Epson 3020 seems like a smart investment.
Saving extra money on the purchase of your projector can enable you to invest in other needed elements of your home theatre to make it the environment you truly desire.
