It’s time for another projector comparison. For those who are just joining us, we take the confusing world of home projectors and make it easier. We have two projectors, and we’ll compare the two to see which is the better value.
Today, on the agenda, we have the W1070 by BenQ, and we’re pitting it up against the HD26 by Optoma. Both are trusted brands in home projectors, earning positive feedback on their respective pages.
But there can only be one. And we’re here to see which is the better value.
The Price
We compare the prices from the official retailers to see if there’s a significant difference, which can affect the value of the product. And both projectors, as it turns out, aren’t too different.
The W1070 goes for about $697 on its Amazon page, as of this article. Meanwhile, the HD26 costs $649.
So there’s less than $50 difference for projectors that cost over $600. If the cheaper model is better than the more expensive, the small price difference will be a cool bonus.
The Picture
Now, for the most important part of any projector, the display. BenQ’s projector provides full HD along with 3D capabilities, and has 2,200 lumens to brighten up the display. Its contrast ratio is not provided on the page.
For Optoma, its projector has the same main features. Full HD, 3D support, etc. However, it does have 1,000 more lumens than BenQ’s projector, and has a whopping 25,000:1 contrast ratio.
The winner here is Optoma. It is much brighter, which can make all the difference depending on your preference.
Other Features
Both projectors do have your standard built-in speakers. If you’ve been reading our comparisons, you should know that we believe these speakers are not needed unless it’s a last resort, since they tend to be much less powerful than external speakers.
BenQ has SmartEco, which automatically adjusts the brightness to an optimal level, which can end up saving energy. Optoma, meanwhile, doesn’t have any unique bells and whistles that set it apart.
When it comes to bonus features, we have to go with BenQ.
Which is Better?
Both products have their own pros and cons. BenQ’s is less bright, but its brightness is smart. Optoma is much brighter and has probably a better contrast ratio.
It’s a close one, but we have to go with Optoma. The SmartEco feature is just an added convenience, and nothing too significant.
What is important, however, is the fact that the Optoma is much brighter and more honest about their contrast ratio. Plus, it’s a bit less in price. Nothing too much, but you can spend that extra $50 buying a few movies or the hottest game to use on your projector.

So overall, Optoma wins, but BenQ’s projector is nice too. Both do provide a great home theater experience, so you can’t go wrong with either.
Anyway, we hope this article helped you in making your decision.
