There are tons of projectors out there. Hundreds of brands carrying hundreds of models, and yet you can only choose one. That’s why we’re here to lessen the pressure by comparing each brand of projector with one another to see which is better.
And today, we have Optoma against Epson with the HD26 and the 2030. Both are in the same price-range of mid-tier projectors, so let’s see which is the better value. We’ll compare price, picture quality, and other features, and then give you a decision.
The Price
When it comes to pricing, we compare based on how much the official retailer on the product’s Amazon page is selling for. Of course, there are used models and different outlets, but for the most assurance, go with the official seller.
The Optoma model costs about $649 as of this article, and the Epson goes for about $794. While not the biggest price difference, the Epson is a bit higher. Is that warranted, or is the Optoma the better value?
Picture
What’s obvious from these projectors is that you’re going to get the basics in picture quality. You’ll get the full HD experience with 3D capabilities, so let’s compare the contrast and brightness of the projectors.
First, we have the Optoma, sporting a whopping 3,200 lumens. That’s good, especially if you like it bright. The Epson just has 2,000, and includes a cheaper model giving you 1,800. As you can see, the Optoma shines much brighter.
Optoma’s model will provide you with a 25,000:1 contrast ratio, and the Epson model will give you 15,000:1.
As you can see, Optoma’s picture quality stomps all over Epson’s. But what about the bells and whistles?
Other Features
Neither projector has any unique features that set them apart. They have eco options that lower the brightness when the machine is idle, but that’s par for the course with all projectors.
Then, we have built-in speakers. And once again, it should be noted that you’re better off with external speakers if you want the true projector experience. The built-in speakers are only useful if your external speakers break.
As usual, both projectors are guaranteed to last long, so your money will be secured when you spend it.
So overall, neither has too much of a difference.
Which is Better?
Don’t get us wrong. The Epson model does hold its own, giving you good picture quality and providing you with a decent home theater experience.

However, the Optoma model is just so much better. It’s brighter, has a sharper contrast, and is about $150 cheaper. You can use the extra money to buy speakers, or get yourself a good movie or game to go with your experience.
So if you have to choose, go with the HD26, unless you can’t find it anywhere for whatever reason.
Here’s hoping this article helped you out in making a decision. Projectors can be difficult to choose, so we hopefully made it easier. Good luck, and happy buying!
