Having a good cup of coffee is vital to starting your day, and if you like your cup of joe in the form of espresso, you need a good machine.
In this post, we’ll be looking at two espresso machines. The Breville 800ESXL and the Rancillio Silvia.
Which machine is the better value? Which one can deliver you the better drink? Which one is the most durable? All will be revealed in this article!
The Price
An espresso machine isn’t like a $20 coffee maker. You’ll need to fork over those dollars if you want one, so both units are for those who have a higher budget.
However, both machines have quite a bit of difference in cost. The Breville’s machine, as of this review, costs about $338 on its Amazon page. Rancillio, meanwhile, will leave you $685.
That’s quite a price difference. Does this mean that Breville will be vastly inferior, or will Rancillio still be the worst of the two?
The Features
Let’s compare what both machines have to offer, first starting with the Rancilio.
The Rancilio model contains a porta filter handle that’s ergonomic in design, and has a group head that keeps the heat stable and provides a quality extraction.
The espresso machine also includes a steam wand, allowing you more range of motion and control over your steaming pressure, making it easier to operate.
The warranty is not available on the page, and you have to contact them to get info.
For the Breville, it has a 15-bar pump and a ThermoBlock heating system. It includes your filters, pitchers, and stainless-steel housing, and gives you an option for steam, hot water, or espresso.
The Breville also comes with cleaning tools as well to make cleanup a breeze. It even includes a purge function, which adjusts water temperature automatically so that you get the sweet spot in espresso extraction.
Its warranty is visible on the page, and it’s one-year.
Feature-wise, while the Rancilio does have better quality filters and some cool bells and whistles, the Breville does have its own unique things as well, making it hard to compare. However, we choose Breville, just because the machine gives you more features for the price.
The Reviews
Now, let’s see what the reviews are saying. Both machines, on their respective Amazon page, have received positive reception with 4 out of 5 stars.
People have praised the Rancillio for its quality, saying that it’s built to last and that it works well. However, a few have had problems making a good cup of espresso, saying the machine is finicky even if you’re experienced, and that it’s not worth the money.
For the Breville, people admire that it gives you good quality for the price, and is easy to operate. There has been mixed reaction concerning the machine’s noise, with some saying it’s quiet and others complaining how loud it is.
Also, one criticism of the Breville is the filters. The filters are apparently hard to find, and aren’t that good. Unlike the Rancillio, their filters aren’t made from brass.

The Rancillio may be a bit better quality, but unless you have the money to splurge, try out the Breville. It’s the better value out of the two.
