Nespresso has paved the way for coffee pod technology which is evident in both the Nespresso Pixie and the Nespresso Pixie Clips. These two espresso machines are not able to make coffee with traditional beans, but rather exclusively use pod technology.
To help you decide if the Nespresso Pixie or the Nespresso Pixie Clips is right for you, we’ve compared the two espresso machines in the categories of mechanics, features, accessories and capacity. We then offer a recommendation.
Mechanics
Both the Nespresso Pixie and the Nespresso Pixie Clips can make coffee in two sizes: 40 mL Espresso and 110 mL Lungo.
Both the Nespresso PIxie and the Nespresso Pixie Clips are only compatible with Nespresso brand pods.
The water tanks for both machines are BPA free and both espresso machines have an automatic shut off after 9 minutes. This can also be programmed to shut off sooner or later, depending on your needs.
Features
The heat up time for both the Nespresso Pixie and the Nespresso Pixie Clips is 25 seconds.
Both espresso machines have empty water tank detection in order for you to be assured that your ability to brew a cup of espresso is primed and ready.
Both the Nespresso Pixie and the Nespresso Pixie Clips have an automatic off mode after nine minutes of non-use so that you never have to worry about accidentally leaving the machine on.
The biggest difference between the two espresso machines is that the Nespresso Pixie Clips comes with interchangeable side panels to customize your machine. Changing the side panels is relatively easy, though make sure that your espresso machine is completely cool.
At the bottom of each pane is a shallow recess which after a few tries becomes easier. The Nespresso Pixie Clips comes with a key in order to help you remove the side panels.
While it’s great to have choice in the color of your machine, your options are still dictated by Nespresso. There are two standard options; you can choose from white and coral or black and lemon.
If purchasing online, however, you can also use Nespresso’s 3D color configuration to personalize your options.
The side panels for the Nespresso Pixie are a standard red, cream or steel.
Accessories
Both the Nespresso Pixie and the Nespresso Pixie Clips have a number of accessories for purchase including espresso glasses, spoons and a travel mug.
Coffee pods for both machines can be ordered online through the Nespresso website, through Amazon, or at other in store retailers.
Capacity
The Nespresso Pixie and the Nespresso Pixie Clips has dimensions of 4.4 inches x 12.8 inches x 9.3 inches. Both espresso machines weigh 6.6 pounds.
Both also have a used capsule that can accommodate up to 11 used pods.
Conclusion
When choosing between the two espresso machines, it all comes down to color preference. Because both models have the same components, the performance between the Nespresso Pixie and the Nespresso Pixie Clips is the same.
However, if you don’t like the basic color options of the Nespresso Pixie, and instead want something that better matches your personal style, then splurge a bit with the Nespresso Pixie Clips.
