The CamelBak series of hydration packs offer a variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate different tastes, trip durations, and needs. Among those offered are the CamelBak M.U.L.E and the CamelBak Ambush.

These hydration packs will not only help you stay hydrated, but also protect the environment from extra waste and plastics by reducing the need for disposable bottles of water.

General features of the M.U.L.E. Backpack

The M.U.L.E. stands for Medium to Ultra Long Endeavors and is designed with day hikers and mountain bikers in mind. It’s built in a narrow-gauge design. This creates one of the lightest and most maneuverable hydration packs on the market.

Comfort and Organization

The CamelBak has a generous waist belt and cushioned shoulder straps and sternum clip. Air channels are built into the back to keep hot spots on the back cool while a blinker light attachment patch adds a valuable safety feature.

The CamelBak M.U.L.E. is ideal for the organized personality. This hydration pack offers a media pocket, bike tool organizer pocket, as well as a stash pocket for additional food for energy on the go. The backpack also comes with four point compression to secure all the items as well as a stretchy overflow helmet storage.

Antidote ® Reservoir Features

The backpack comes with an Antidote ® Reservoir. In this backpack the cap is ¼ turn open. Its most prominent features are the low profile for water stability and center baffling.

The inside of the reservoir is lined with HydroGuard ™ technology. This technology focuses on protecting the interior from mold and bacteria.

The CamelBak Ambush Hydration Pack

Capacity

Both of the M.U.L.E. and the Ambush have a fairly large fluid capacity. The M.U.L.E has a capacity of 101 oz. (3.1 liters) while the Ambush has a capacity of 102 oz. (3.1 liters). This makes it ideal for extended hikes, biking, and small trips.

Water Reservoir

The Ambush features a Water Beast ® Reservoir as opposed to the M.U.L.E.’s Antidote Reservoir. In both cases however, the hydration packs offer wide-mouth openings making cleaning and refills much easier.
Both feature a PureFlow ™ tube, the patented Big Bite ™ Valve, and a HydroLink ™ Exit/Drink Port, as well as the HydroLock ™ one handed flow control.

Comfort and Organization

The CamelBak Ambush is made to optimize the area of a user’s back. This creates a wider platform, shorter torso length, reducing stack height, compared to the CamelBak M.U.L.E.’s narrower design. The Ambush also provides the option of routing the drink tube into the desired position, over the shoulder or under the arm.

Like the M.U.L.E the Ambush also offers external zip pockets to hold some essentials. However the Ambush only offers a total 372.2 cu volume compared to the M.U.L.E.’s 732 cubic inches capacity.

Warranty

Both packs are covered by the Camelbak ® Got Your Bak Guarantee. This guarantee provides a lifetime guarantee on the quality of the product.

Conclusion

CamelBak takes pride in its quality products and backs them with a lifetime guarantee. Both the M.U.L.E and the Ambush offer excellent hydration services, a great fluid capacity for extended adventures, and quality materials.
Both products have similar hydration capacity and similar fluid delivery systems in place. However, in terms of size of storage the M.U.L.E hydration pack is the winner. Its many zippered pockets and organizational features make finding and storing your essentials on the go simple.
