The Safety 1st Guide 65 and the Eddie Bauer XRS 65 are convertible car seats designed to be used for children between 5 lbs and 65 lbs. They will both give you extended use being able to be used in either a rear facing or forward facing position, so how do you know which one is better?

Both the Safety 1st Guide 65 and the Eddie Bauer XRS 65 feature side impact protection, giving you peace of mind in the event of an impact. Both the car seats can be used in a rear facing position until your child is 40 lbs, allowing you to keep your child in a safer position in the car for longer.

The Safety 1st Guide 65 and the Eddie Bauer XRS 65 both have 5 point harnesses to keep your child secure in their seat and can be adjusted for your child up to 65 lbs in a forward facing position.

Size

The Eddie Bauer XRS 65 measures 25 by 18.5 by 22 inches compared to the Safety 1st Guide 65 which measures 27.25 by 18.5 by 20.25 inches, giving you room in the back seat of your car if you have more than one car seat. The Safety 1st Guide 65 is compact enough for three to be installed in a row.

The Eddie Bauer XRS 65 is lighter, weighing 12 lbs compared to the Safety 1st Guide 65 which weighs 14 lbs. The Eddie Bauer XRS 65 will also take up less room in front when installed in a rear facing position.

Comfort

Both models benefit from adjustable harnesses to allow your child to have a snug, well fitting harness as they grow. Both the Eddie Bauer XRS 65 and the Safety 1st Guide 65 have 5 different harness positions and 3 crotch buckle positions.

The two car seats have adjustable padded headrests to give your child extra comfort during long trips. They both come with removable body support cushions to give your infant a better fit and they both feature removable cup holders for extra convenience.

Ease of Use

Both the models are Latch equipped to make it quick and easy to install. The Safety 1st Guide 65 is easier to install in either position compared to the Eddie Bauer which can be difficult to install in a rear facing position.

Both the car seats have harnesses that can be adjusted at the front, making it quicker and easier for you to get your child in and out of their seat. Both are lightweight and compact so they’re easy to take on trips or for using between vehicles.

Recommendation

After looking in detail at the features of both the Eddie Bauer XRS 65 and the Safety 1st Guide 65 we think the better car seat is the Safety 1st Guide 65. It is easier and quicker to install and has all the benefits of the Eddie Bauer XRS 65.

The two models are around the same price and have have similar safety features but the Safety 1st Guide 65 is the better choice for using between vehicles.
